The Goldendoodle is considered a “designer” crossbreed between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. If you are looking to complete your home with a playful, fun-loving, and friendly dog then this breed is perfect for you. Kind, patient, and gentle, they are perfect for anyone looking for an active family dog.
The Goldendoodle is a dog like no other as they are hypoallergenic, incredibly smart (making them easy to train), and have a patient temperament. Calm and friendly, too, they get along well with small children and other dogs.
Goldendoodles are one of the most popular dogs in the world because they are hypoallergenic, easy to train, and friendly. These beautiful, teddy-bear like dogs come in a huge variety of colors and sizes. They have become so popular because they combine the best of both a Golden Retriever and Poodle.
Goldendoodles are often calm and welcoming to everyone, and have many roles and sought after qualities, aside from being an amazing, loyal companion.
If you are thinking of using a Goldendoodle as a guard dog, you will fail miserably! Goldendoodles are typically not threatened by house guests and are generally not good at distinguishing between threatening and non-threatening situations. So if you are looking for a guard or security dog, you may need to keep looking… :) This breed is one of the friendliest and most approachable dogs you could wish to meet and is happy to say a cheery hello to almost anyone. They have inherited a calm and relaxed temperament from the Golden Retriever side of this mix which makes them super friendly to all. For a Goldendoodle, everyone is a friend.
The most exceedingly dominant characteristics found in the majority of Goldendoodles are that they are super eager to please and get along with most other dogs too. This is important if you already have pets, especially other dogs at home. Due to their highly energetic nature, they enjoy daily exercise that is appropriate for their activity level to keep them happy and healthy, but are also completely content to sit and relax with their humans, as well!
Because this breed has a lot of confidence with new people, they develop a strong bond with their owner, but this can cause them to lose confidence when not in their owner’s presence. This makes it important that you have enough time to give this breed all the attention they need to stay happy and confident.
The Goldendoodle is known for being a healthy dog breed and fortunately is prone to very few health conditions. However, a known health problem for designer dogs are shared illnesses or genetic diseases in the parent breeds. Our dams and sires are all health tested through Embark. The Embark for Breeders testing we perform provides breed-relevant disease screening for our dogs, including results for nearly all genetic mutation tests recommended by national breed clubs. The screening we use also includes traits testing, (including coat color, body size, and more), DLA diversity testing, and genetic Coefficient of Inbreeding (COI) score. All this to say - poor genetics is not something you need to worry about!

With so many doodle varieties available today, it is important to educate yourself before making the decision to welcome a dog into your life for the next fifteen years or more. If you are feeling overwhelmed to make the right choice, learn about the non-poodle breed that was used to create the doodle (i.e. Irish Setter for Irishdoodle, Saint Bernard for Saint Berdoodles, etc.). Take a closer look at their temperaments and the original purpose they were bred for. The AKC website or Wikipedia are very helpful to research the various breeds.
One should never choose a dog based solely on looks, but if allergies play a role in your family, many non-doodle breeds are wonderful options since their coats may be more predictable than that of a mixed breed.
